Sara Smith, LGPC

Therapist (LGPC)

As a licensed counselor my goal is to help clients build good strategies, coping mechanisms and skills so they can feel more prepared to lead a healthy, successful and fulfilled life.  I believe that therapy is a collaborative process between the client and counselor.  I hope to create an empathetic, warm and non-judgmental environment so clients feel comfortable expressing their feelings and emotions which will help them to more fully benefit from the counseling experience.

I have been working in the mental health field in St Mary’s County since 2011 as a counselor as well as in the hospital emergency room with the psychiatric patients.  This experience has helped me to acquire knowledge in multiple approaches and techniques including cognitive behavioral, psycho-education, mindfulness, psycho-dynamic techniques and client centered therapy.  It has also afforded me the opportunity to work with all manner of problems from mild depression and anxiety to the more severe and chronic mental health diagnoses in all age groups.

On the more personal side, I have been a military spouse for over 20 years and am in the process of raising three children.  I have always had a helping heart and a desire to help people make their lives better and easier.
