Tamica Johnson
I hold a master’s degree in Social Work from Walden University and am licensed in the state of Maryland. My professional journey began with over 10 years of experience in the medical field, providing me with a strong foundation in healthcare. Additionally, I served as the Director of a local youth group, Youth to Teens, in St. Mary’s County, MD, for five years, gaining valuable insights into working with young individuals and fostering their growth.
Throughout my career, I have developed extensive expertise in helping clients cope with various mental health challenges, with a particular focus on anxiety, grief, depression, and working with children. My approach to therapy is built on the principle of collaboration, viewing myself and my clients as a team working together to achieve their goals.
I am trained in several evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which focuses on strengthening the parent-child bond and equipping caregivers with valuable skills to address child behavior concerns effectively. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), a specialized approach that assists individuals, especially children and adolescents, in processing grief, trauma, and various mental health challenges. Additionally, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful therapy for addressing traumatic experiences.
In my perspective, my path to Serenity Place and my purpose have been guided by a higher calling. The guiding words of Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight,” reflect my deep faith and belief that I am meant to assist clients in living their best quality of life.
I am trained in LGBTQ youth clinical strategies, which enables me to provide specialized support and care to LGBTQ youth, recognizing the unique challenges and experiences they may face.
I am also trained in Prepare and Enrich, which equips me to provide specialized support to couples, helping them navigate various aspects of their relationships and build stronger, more fulfilling connections.
I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to be a part of your therapeutic journey, providing guidance, support, and a compassionate approach that aligns with your unique needs and goals. Together, we can work towards a more fulfilling and empowered life.
